桃園縣農業土地利用之研究

A Study of Agricultural Land-Use in Taoyuan

並列摘要

Taoyuan County is located in the northwest part of Taiwan. Geographically, the southeast part of this area is almost completely occupied by-high mountains which oriented from northeast to southwest, paralleling with the axis of the Central Ranges. This region is formed by sandstone and shale which is about 34% of the total area. Its average height is 1000-2000meters above sea level. These mountains decrease abruptly in height toward the northwest and formed a great diluvial tableland which is about 1/2 of the total area with average height of 150-200 meters. The northwestern part along the seashore is a narrow alluvial plain. According to the köppen's climate Classification system, it possesses the humid subtropical climate. Summer temperaturs is hot and its rainfall is abundant. Winters are cool with frequent modified continental polar air mass invasions.. The mean annual temperature is about 22℃. The average annual precipation is above 2000 mm. The distribution of the rainfall relatively balances through out the year. In other words, there is no distinctive dry season existing in this area. From the view point of the formation of soils, this regions seems to be favorable for promoting the process of Podzolization. As a matter of fact, most of this area is abundant in lateritic soils. This kind of lateristic soil is distributed all over the area of diluvial tableland except in high mountain and. northwest coast. The texture of this, soil is very compact, and the individual pore spaces are too small for adequate drainage. This is the most favorable condition for making pond irrigations which had played an important role in developing agriculture before the SM -Mon Reservior was built in 1964. Rice is one of the most important crops in this area: There are two crops each year. Short period crops can be planted in the intermediate period. Rice is mainly distributed in all flat areas where irrigation is convienent. The next important crop is tea which distributed on hill or slope area where the climate and soil are favorable for tea growing. but soil erosion is quite serious. The other important group of crops include peanuts, potatoes and corn Owing to lack of convienent irrigation system, these crops are almost distributed in northwest coast and hilly area. On account of the rapid development of both industries and commerce in the last ten years, the population density of this county has approached the saturation point, a lot of arable lands have been occupied as building sites. As a result, there is a critical shortage of farming field. Therefore, we have to map out an intensive and long-term plan to make the best use of the agriculture land and to find ways and means of solving: the problem arising from them. This paper includes three main parts first, to illustrate the natural geopruphical environment influences on the agriculture development in this area; Second, to discuss the current conditions of the agriculture land use; and third, to make some suggestions for improving land use in order to get a profitable result to the greatest extend from economic point of view.
