This paper aims to explore the influence of ball material reform on the development of table tennis. The relevant literature on the table tennis rules and equipment reform and the use of plastic balls in competitive games were collected and reviewed; after the literature was consolidated, it was concluded that the use of plastic balls in table tennis competitions reduces the speed and spin of the ball, increases the number of rounds in each game and improves the viewing experience and quality of table tennis games. The results of this study found that the reform of balls has far-reaching effects. 40+ table tennis mainly affects the stroking quality and the players' overall physical fitness requirements. The follow-up research will discuss the practical application of physical fitness to table tennis performance.
