The property of light transmitted through small aperture have been studied for more than 200 years ago. However, few recent studies found interesting phenomenon and lead us to a new thinking of these phenomenon. 1. Transmitted light intensity is two times the incident intensity when light pass through a 2-dimensional hole array with hole width in nanometer scales. 2. When light pass through a single aperture surrounded by corrugated metal film, the spatial angular divergence is only 30°. 3. Interesting pattern was found in NSOM (Near-field scanning optical microscopy) images of nanometer scale device. These novel phenomenon reveal the potential new optical properties occurred in nanometer scale materials and devices. With proper design, these knowledge may be applied to open up future optoelectronic field.
