摘要

本文主在藉由目前學術界習稱的「南勢阿美」來討論其族群的認同與歸屬，試看在不同歷史時期外人對其聚落、住民的命名，和指稱所包含的對象，與同時代命名者的空間活動、認知的關聯。文中除了探討「南勢阿美」一詞的起源與沿革外，並討論其組成聚落、住民在文獻記載內的集稱與歸屬，從「直腳宣五社」、「崇爻」八社或九社、「奇萊社番」到「南勢番」等集稱命名的變遷和命名者的空間認知間之關聯。男一方面，本文亦整理相關研究對「南勢阿美」此一集稱所包含的聚落、住民，做爲阿美族亞族群體在同質性方面的質疑，並討論當代族群後裔的認同與其在歸屬上的建構與詮釋。

The paper discusses the identity of the academia-defined Nan-shih Amis by exploring the relationship among the named residents and villages, the geography of social activities and spatial cognition of those outsiders who named in various historical stages. In addition to investigating the origin and development of the term Nan-shih Amis, attention is given to how those people being collectively termed Tit-kha-soan, Sonkau, Ki-lai and Lam-sek (i.e., Nan-shih) through history and the explanation is based on the spatial cognition of the labelers.
Moreover, the paper also presents the inquiries into the homogeneity of cultural elements of Nan-shih Amis, as well as the construction and interpretation of their own identity by the associated descends.
