Tendon Transfer for Restoration of Post-Traumatic Digits and Wrist Extension Function - A Case Report

摘要

Background: Tendon transfer is a well-established method for restoring lost movement and function at another site. The technique is often employed in patients with nerve injuries, functional loss of muscle and tendon after trauma, and various neurological diseases. Materials and Methods: We present the case of a 28-year-old man who sustained a machine-caused crush injury to the left upper limb. After the accident, he lost the extensor function of his left-hand digits and wrist. He also had a skin defect on his left forearm. To restore the extension function of his left-hand digits and wrist, he underwent tendon transfer after several debridement surgeries. A free anterolateral myocutaneous flap was used to cover the skin defect on his left forearm. Results: Through tendon transfer and rehabilitation, the extensor function of the patient's digits and wrist was restored. Conclusion: Safety in the work environment must be consistently emphasized. Loss of muscle and tendon function in the upper limbs after trauma is rare but still encountered, and tendon transfer is an effective method for restoring functional loss in the upper limbs.
