Internet is forcing both faculties and students change their traditional way in teaching and learning. Furthermore, overwhelming information on the Internet may change students’ behavior in locating information. While locating information on the Internet, students may not even exactly know the accuracy and credibility of web information they are retrieving, let alone could be tricked by wrong Web information.
The purpose of this study was to estimate how university students depend on the Web for information in learning and to evaluate how the Web information influences university student learning performance. The findings in this study suggested that university students are inclined to increase their time spent on the Internet as time goes by. When students apply various sources to complete schoolwork, there is significant discrepancy between practical and ideal utilization of different information sources. The results concluded that on average about 56% of university students consider that multitasking behaviors bring them very or quite negative influences and affect their learning performance. When they do their schoolwork, utilizing unrelated web tools or irrelevant software at the same time negatively affects their concentration and learning performance. Conversely, about 74% of participants articulated that applying various Web interactive tools to do course-related activities brings them positive influence in their school learning. There are discrepancies between university students’ perceptions and practical behaviors toward information citation behaviors. The way participants deal with online information might affect their perceptions toward university students’ information citation behaviors. Many university students (64%) consider that participating in web communities is very or quite helpful to their school learning. To sum up, the results indicated that nearly 78% of participants think that the Internet influences their school learning a lot or pretty much. Moreover, 21% of university students consider that the Internet brings them some influences.
