本研究主要以探討警察與記者在工作角色價值發生衝突時，警察會產生哪些類型的工作壓力，以及警察將採用何種方法來面對前述的壓力。本研究先以文獻檢閱的方式，找出警察與記者在工作角色價值發生衝突時所可能產生的三種壓力類型，分別為金魚缸壓力、角色衝突壓力以及經營媒體關係的壓力。在壓力應對的方式，本研究以Anshel（2000）提出之警察處理壓力概念模型為研究基礎，並應用其於後續的研究分析。
　　本研究主要以深度訪談法為研究方法的主軸，並以雙北各地區之居住人口為抽樣依據，同時輔以滾雪球及立意抽樣找出14位受訪者。研究發現，在警界的實務運作中，確實存在金魚缸壓力、角色衝突壓力以及經營媒體關係的三種壓力類型，而三種壓力類型彼此之間環環相扣，互相影響，同時也都有機會導致長官向下帶來的壓力；在壓力應對方法上，本研究依據Anshel（2000）的警察處理壓力概念模型作分析架構，研究發現警察確實會藉由認知上的處理辦法、處理壓力的行為、行為逃避策略和認知型的逃避策略四種類型來面對壓力。其中處理壓力的行為為最多受訪者所採用的壓力用對方式；過去Anshel（2000）透過大量文獻檢閱彙整出警察處理壓力概念模型，本研究則透過實證的方式驗證此一警察處理壓力概念模型。
　　最後，本研究根據前述之研究結果提出相關研究建議。組織面而言，本研究建議警察機關可以落實媒體公關的相關課程、在培訓管道中加入人格特質的項目、落實機關指定發言人的機制、建立良好的紓壓管道及相關配套措施以及倡導媒體自律及媒體倫理；個人層面而言，警察需調整自身的心態，同時意識到壓力沒有根除的一日，須尋找適合自己的紓壓管道。
