Litterfall is an important part of material flow and nutrient cycle in the forest ecosystem, but the litterfall dynamics of afforestation in the plain area is still obscure in Taiwan. The objective of this study was investigating litterfall dynamics of afforestation in the plain area in Ping dong CO_2 flux research site to understand amounts, composition and seasonal change of litterfall. Total amounts of litterfall, which collected 36 times in one year(2011), were 2,912 kg ha^(-1). Mean month litterfall was 243 kg ha^(-1)mon^(-1), ranged from 12 to 575 kg ha^(-1)mon(-1), of which 23.28%-92.69% was composed of foliar, 5.94-17.84% was composed of branch, and others such as bark, flower, fruit, bug etc. The largest amount of litterfall occurred in December, 47 times larger than the smallest amount in June. The precipitation decreased and therefore plant decreased evaporation, resulting in litterfall increase.
