Influence of Cover Crops and Mulching on Sloping-Land-Mulberry Orchard in Eastern Taiwan (Preliminary Report)

摘要

本試驗之目的在探討東台坡地桑園，經種植覆蓋與敷蓋後，對土壤物理性、桑葉產量與桑樹生育之影響。試驗地點設在台灣土地銀行所屬池上蠶桑場，歷時三年(1975～1978)。其初步結果證明經種植覆蓋作物與敷蓋等，三年後，即能改善土壤物理性，如水分含量提高，增加土壤孔隙度，以利桑樹之生育等。在種植初期，對桑樹之生育有所影響，但後期則有好轉之趨勢。因此，就水土保持與改善土壤而言，今後東台坡地桑園宜採用覆蓋與敷蓋處理。

The purpose of this study is to find out the conservation measures of the cover crops and the mulching affecting on Soil Physical and Chemical properties, the mulberry trees production and their growing condition in Eastern Taiwan sloping land. The study was conducted in Taiwan Land Bank-Chih Shang Sericulture Location from July 1975 to June 1978. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Before the experiment, the soil volume weight was 1.30^g/cm^3. After three years, the strip planting and mulching with Bahia grass reduced the volume weight to 1.11^g/cm^3, the cover with Desmodium heteropyllum, 1.18^g/cm^3 and the mulching with straw, 1.17^g/cm^3. 2. Before the experiment, the soil hydraulic conductivity was 8.7981 x 10^(-3cm) /min. After three years, the strip planting and mulching with Bahia grass increased soil hydraulic conductivity to 1.3818 x 10^(-1cm)/min, the cover with Desmodium heteropyllum, 4.4602 x 10^(-2cm) /min. 3. Before the experiment, the soil porosity was 49.88%, after three years, the strip planting and mulching with Bahia grass averagely increased soil porosity to 57.16%, the cover with Desmodium heteropyllum, 52.12%, the mulching with straw, 53.20%. 4. In the beginning, the clean cultivation as check plot is better than the other treatments in the mulberry leaves production and mulberry trees growth condition. But the latters get better gradually as time going on. It can be concluded that the cover crops were planted and mulching for three years could make the soil coarser in apparent texture and increase its porosity. The soil physical and chemical properties were thus improved and better growth of mulberry trees will be obtained.
