The purpose of this paper is to examine the views toward money through folk proverbs. The paper is divided into five parts: making and losing money, the rich and the poor, spending and saving money, borrowing and returning money, and the relationships between money and individuals and society. Proverbs are considered lenses with which to view culture. Through the 221 proverbs on money discussed in this paper, we may come to a closer understanding of individual and social behaviors regarding money in folk culture.
