The purpose of this article was to describe nursing experience in a patient with thyrotoxicosis, who developed the psychotic symptoms after the operation for ophthalmopathy. The authors collected data, using conversation, observation, direct nursing care, and holistic nursing assessments. Then they identified the patient's problems as follows: altered thought processes, sensor/perceptual alteration, and knowledge deficit. During the nursing process, the authors established a rapport with the patient and family, in discriminating hallucinations, and delusions from reality and fostering the skills of self-management. Finally, the patient could have better coping skills with psychotic symptoms, coexist with the symptoms peacefully, take medicine, and return for outpatient services regularly. Finally, the family could have better understanding of the disease concept, accept mental illness and monitor the patient’s drug compliance. This study should be helpful for us in understanding how to care for the patient of psychotic disorder combining with a thyroid problem.
