A Primary Study on Using Cane Sugar for Reducing Chrome Salts Tanning Solution

並列摘要

Chrome salts, when it is used for tanning leather, must first reduced to basic chrome salts by glucose or sodium thiosulphate, otherwise there would be no true tanning value at all. But these reducing agents, glucose and sodium thiosulphate, are all being imported from abroad, not only the price of which is too high, but also it can hardly be bought in Taiwan. The object of this experiment is to study whether there is any possibility to use cane sugar which is now one of the main agricultural products in Taiwan, as a substitute for glucose and sodium thiosulphate. The result is summarized as follows: 1. When using cane sugar for reducing chrome salts tanning solution, the proper quantity of cane sugar is 40% of chrome salts. 2. When using ca no sugar for reducing chrome salts tanning solution the best results are obtained when the basicity of the solution is 109.
