甘藷新引進品種特性觀察

Observation on the Characteristics of Recently Introduced Varieties of Sweet Potato (Ipomoea Batatas)

並列摘要

(1) The characteristics of seventy-one sweet potato varieties introduced from Kiangsu, Chekiang, Szechuang, Kwangsie, Kwangtung and Fukien provinces and other plances during 1946 to 1943 were observed from September of 1948 to April of 1951. (2) Through the observation in first year, fourty-two out of sixty-seven varieties were selected for successive observation and all but one introduced from Szechuang and Fukien provioces were discarded due to their useless inferior characteristics for cross-breeding. (3) Three varieties, ”Red Nancy,” ”Oklahoma 24” and ”Okinawa 100” which were too late to be planted in 1948, were partaken the observation since 1949. The ”Okinawa 100” variety was temperarily divided into two lines, named the ”Okinawa 100 (1)” ad the ”Okinawa 100 (2)” due to the different characteristics of whole plant bodies and ”Okinawa 100 (1)” was lately identified to be the true one according to the earlier records. (4) Two-varieties, one from the Nanking Central Agriculture Research Bureau and the other from the Fukien Agricultural Experiment Station, have a same varietal name ”Nancy Hall” and they were lately proved to be the same one at all. They were, therefore, fused in one for observation from second year (1949). (5) Majority of the introduced varieties are early-maturing or nearly so. These most popular varieties such as ”Nancy Hall” ”Porto Rico” ”Lin Nang No.2” ”Yung Ch'un Five teeth” produce tubers nor only suitable for table use but also giving high percentage of chips, so that these may be used for both extension and breeding, while the ”Lin Nang No. 5”, ”Lie No. 1”, ”Lin No. 16”, ”Sung Yang No. 23”, ”Sung Yang No. 41”, ”Sung Yang No- 208”, and ”Swig Yang No. 243” although poor in chips, are all early maturing and high yielding varieties. (6) Out of Fourty-six varieties observed for more than two years on flowering period and flower number, only nine varieties have not flowered at Chia-Yi. Flowers blossomed on the flowered-varieties a-re quite different in number. The range of flower numbers per plant among these varieties is between 1.3 to 24.5. The duration of flowering period and the number of flowers varied more or less in different years. The average of correlation coefficient of flower number in three years was+0.842.
