Pitting corrosion behavior of six commercial stainless steels in 3.5% NaCl and 0.1N H2SO4 have been investigated. The cyclic anodic potentiodynamic technique and immersion test were used to evaluate pitting corrosion resistance. Increasing the addition of NaCl in 0.1N H2SO4 solution decreases pitting potential, reduces passivity region, and locally damages passive film of stainless steels. Stainless steels with high pitting resistance equivalent exhibits good pitting resistance in chloride-containing solutions.
