Perturbation Method for Elementary Excitation of Liquid 4He

Elementary excitation energy of liquid 4He has been studied by using the Brillouin-Wigner perturbation theory in con junction with the correlated basis functions. The leading correction to the convolution approximation for the three-particle distribution function, and the two-ring diagrams have been included. In the numerical calculation, the optimum liquid structure functions obtained by Campbell-Feenberg and by Pokrant are employed. In the Bijl-Dingle-Jastrow representation, Campbell-Feenberg's liquid structure function in the hypernetted-Chain approximation generates the best excitation spectrum in agreement with experiments. However, in the exact ground-state representation, all of the optimum forms considered yield poor agreements more or less. This indicates that the optimized BDJ-type of the liquid structure functions are still far from being considered as exact.
