Calorimetric measurements between 2 and 80 K were made on intermetallic compound YCu and antiferromagnetic HoCu, DyCu, TbCu, and GdCu. For YCu, the limiting value of Debye temperature θD(0) and the electronic heat capacity coefficient γ were obtained to be 260 K and 0.0020 J/g-atom-K' respectively. For the whole temperature range, however, a single θD value of 230 K appears to be a better tit based on the Debye function. For the rare-earth compounds, by using the similarly determined Debye temperatures (150 K for DyCu and 160 K for the others) and assuming the same γ value, magnetic contributions were extracted from the total heat capacities. Below their respective Neel temperature T,, anomalous peaks often prevail. Some of them are believed to be associated with spin reorientations. For TbCu and GdCu the interpretations become more complicated due to structural transformations with large hystereses near TN. Even so, this work provides a useful basis for further elucidating the peculiar magnetic properties of these rare-earth compounds.
