Processing Issues of High Tc Conductors

並列摘要

Significant progress made in the areas of ceramic processing and wire fabrication has dispelled some of the earlier concerns about the viability of HTS for power applications. Progress includes: (1) the fundamental understanding of the nature of weak-link grain boundaries and the pinning of the magnetic flux vortices; (2) controlled processing of Bi-based wires that are essentially free of weak-link grain boundaries; and (3) the report of very favorable flux-pinning properties for the Tl-1223 and Tl-1212 compounds and the demonstration of wire fabrication based on these materials. The development of reliable, low temperature refrigeration systems is expected to accelerate the commercialization of power devices operated at temperatures in the 20-30 K range. Later, as materials processing and synthesis improve, the operating temperature would incease, with 77 K as the logical long-term goal. These and other related processing issues will be discussed.
