Using the pump-probe fluorescence depletion technique, we observed three bands resulting from a two-photon excitation of CS2 in the gas phase. Their origins are at the energies of 46249.43(9) cm¡ 1, 46257.56(9) cm¡ 1, and 46258.80(34) cm¡ 1, respectively. Based on symmetry arguments, the upper state of these bands was assigned to be the gerade electronic state coming from the (¼g)^3¾g electronic configuration, which has never been observed before.
