Phonon Scattering by a Planar Surface Inhomogeneity

並列摘要

A low dimensionality structural model, containing surface inhomogeneity (grafted chains on a monolayer), is presented and studied by the matching method. An analysis of the perfect regions of the sample yields the allowed bands associated with the two dispersion eigenmodes. Attenuation factors induced by the structural inhomogeneity are determined and analyzed. In addition, an application of the matching method to the defect area permits the calculation of the reflection and transmission coefficients for two different masses (light and heavy) of the adatomic chain. The results show the Fano resonances due to a coupling between continuum and discrete states induced by the defect. It is shown that these resonances shift to higher frequencies with the increase of adatom mass. The conductance of the system is also calculated and discussed.
