Detecting Strangeness -4 Dibaryon States

Recent experiments at Jefferson Laboratory, potential new facilities at the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC), the energy, beam intensity, and detection systems available at RHIC, and recent lattice calculations make it evident that the discovery of a 1S0 di-cascade bound state of two Ξ particles is feasible. We state the simple arguments, based on SU(3) flavor symmetry, for the existence of this bound state, discuss the previous predictions, and comment on the experimental conditions necessary for detection. We conclude that observing this new state of matter in heavy ion collisions at RHIC is not unlikely.
