Evaluation of Lymphocyte Subsets in Healthy Subjects and Patients with Advanced or Terminal Oral Cancer

摘要

Lymphocyte subsets in the peripheral blood of healthy Taiwan adults were analyzed using flow cytometry. In the future, we hope to establish baseline information of lymphocyte subsets in Taiwanese. These data (28 adults, including 14 males and 14 females, aged 23~70 years old) on lymphocyte subsets included the population of helper T cells (CD4+ /CD3+), suppressor/cytotoxic T cells (CD8+ADD3+), B cells (CD19+), NK cell (CD56+), and the helper/suppressor T cells ratio (CD4+/CD8+). Differences in the populations of B cells and NK cells between males and females were observed. Populations of B cells (11.9%) and NK cells (7.4%) in females were significantly lower than there of males (16.3% for B cells and 9.3% for NK cells. In this study, T-helper cells (CD4+ADD3+) and the CD4+/CD8+ ratio were higher in females than males. Moreover, the CD4+/DD3+ and CD19+ lymphocyte subsets in 5 terminal oral cancer patients were found to be decreased. This information about cell-mediated immunity in adult healthy Taiwanese and advanced oral cancer patients is essential for our future investigations on immune changes in different stages of oral carcinogenesis.
