the Consequence of A Thicker Patella After Prosthetic Replacement

並列摘要

A thicker patella was regarded as one of the causes of patellofemoral complications after total knee replacement. In order to investigate the kinematic effect of thicker patella on Knee function, ten intact embalmed cadaveric knee effect of a thicker patella on knee function, ten intact embalmed cadaveric knee specimens, each with an adjustable patellar thickness were used to measure at different patellar thickness: 1) the patellofemoral contact pressure suing pressure sensitive Fuji prescale film; and 2) patellar movement during knee flexion from full extension position using an imange processing system. As the patellar thickness increased from the original dimension to a 7 mm increment, lateral patellar subluxation was clearly demonstrated by an increase in the patellofemoral contact pressure on the lateral femoral condyle and by lateral displacement of the patella. Increased patellar thickness in a total knee replacement is considered to be one of the causes of lateral subluxation. The importance of monitoring patellar thickness using a patellar cutting jig is stressed.
