Since total knee arthroplasty is the best choice of treatment for endstage joint disease of rheumatoid arthritis, we collected 32 total knee arthroplasties in 25 patients of rheumatoid arthritis that were per-formed at our division within recent four years. Mean age was 53 years old. Postoperative complications included one peroneal nerve palsy (3.1%), one patellar lateral subluxation (3.1%), one superficial wound infection (3.1%), and one septic loosening (3.1%). Mean follow-up duration was 27.2 months. We used the Knee Society Score Rating System for evaluation. Revision was performed in one knee because of septic loosening. The mean knee score was 87.1 (from 74 to 100). The mean function score was 62.2 (from 45 to 90). Twenty-eight knees (93.3%) showed good to excellent knee sore results and 13 knees (43.3%) had good to excellent functional score results. Complete pain-free motion was obtained in 14 knees (46.7%). Mad or occasional pain was still noted in 15 knees (53.3%). Moderate knee pain was noted in one (3.3%) knee. Our result was similar to the recent series that was reported by Whiteside and his colleagues.
