營養介入對居家失能營養不良老人病患營養狀況之效益

Beneficial Effects of a Nutritional Intervention in Disabled Homebound Elderly with Malnutrition

摘要

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a nutritional intervention on the nutritional status of homebound disabled elderly with malnutrition. Disabled subjects age over 65 years with a serum albumin level of < 3.5 gm/dL or a serum total cholesterol level of < 160 mg/dL and who lived at home were included in this study. Subjects were divided into an intervention (n = 12) and a non-intervention (n = 10) group respectively according to receive nutritional consultation or not, and the nutritional status was evaluated by an anthropometric examination, dietary survey, and biochemical parameters for 6 months. Results showed that the total caloric intake of the intervention group increased during the experimental period and was significantly higher than that of the non-intervention group from the 2nd month on. The body weight, and albumin and total cholesterol values of the intervention group also increased and significantly differed from those of the non-intervention group, whereas these parameters worsened in the non-intervention group. In summary, we concluded that the dietary intervention improved the malnutrition status of the disabled homebound elderly, and nutrient intake is an important factor for maintaining an optimal nutritional status.
