This preliminary study investigated the potential of an automated system to evaluate the nature of recreation experience in relation to environmental attributes. An automated system is designed and developed to test the reactions of people passing a controlled array of spatial situationds. The sample environment is a pedestrian passing through a simulated urban area and heading to the entrance of a landscaped park. Findings suggest that the process of visual perception is important to the study of recreation experiences and environmental attributes. In addition, the use of computer animation and multimedia is able to capture the dynamic nature of recreation experience in relation to environmental attributes.
