The purpose of this study was to determine factors influencing the return-to-work status among the occupational hand injured workers. Questionnaires were mailed to 3000 workers with occupational hand injuries. The response rate was 20.9%. Five hundred fifty-four injured workers (88.5%) reported returning to work by the time of survey. Factors influencing return-to-work status were compared using step wise forward logistic regression. The results indicated that work status before injuries, age, sex, disabled status, whether receiving compensation other than the compensation from the government, and whether receiving rehabilitation services after injuries were significant factors influencing return-to-work status after occupational hand injuries. Most of the occupational hand injured workers reported that the financial need was the major reason why they returned to work after injuries. Unable to find a competent job and unable to perform any job were both the major reasons why the injured workers did not return to work. Most of the injured workers (48.4%) leaving their previous job by reason of being afraid of reinjury. These results suggested that it is important to consider physical, social, and personal factors while planning rehabilitation and treatment services for occupational hand injured workers.
