An excavation case with the installation of cross walls and buttress walls located in Taipei was analyzed using the three-dimensional numerical method. Based on the comparison of field observations and analysis results, the analysis method and its parameter determination procedure were proposed. Furthermore, analysis results indicate that cross wall also exhibits corner effects, similar to diaphragm wall near corners. Ground movements near cross walls were relatively small, compared with those far away from them. The restraining effect of cross walls in reducing ground movements decreases with the increase of the distance between cross walls. The ground movement obviously increases with the increase of the distance between cross walls. The effect of buttress wall in reducing ground movements increases with the increasing length of buttress wall due to the increase of the side frictional resistance. For some sections that deflection was expected smaller, installation of buttress wall will provide little contribution in reducing the ground movement.
