SHORT-TERM HEALTH MONITORING ON THE GREEN ROOF BUILDING - TAKING SHULIN PUBLIC COLUMBARIUM PAGODA AS AN EXAMPLE

To measure the affected level of vibration frequencies for a green roof building, Shulin Columbarium Pagoda, a 3-story public building with a 40 cm soil layer on the roof, is chosen to be investigated by short-term health monitoring. Three tri-axial seismometers had been set up 3 months before the soil was piled up on the roof, and then the test still kept continuing for another 1 month after the green roof had been done. The total weight of soil layer is about 150 tons, accounting for 15% of the roof slab weight. According to the identified results from collected earthquake records, the natural frequency in short-side direction approximately decreased from 6.5 Hz to 5.9 Hz, while the frequency in long-side direction was well identified decreasing from 6.5 Hz to 6 Hz. It can be concluded that 15% extra mass of original roof slab causes the obvious drop of vibration period. Therefore, while a green roof project was applied in old buildings, the earthquake resistance design should be rechecked by the engineer to assure the safety of the building.
