While funeral rituals and manners were placed great importance in traditional Chinese feudal society, scholars of Wei-Chin Dynasties despised hypocritical courtesy, focusing on being themselves and acting on their own in an absurd, reckless way, which was revealed truthfully in ”Chapter of Sadness of Death” in Shih Shuo Hsin Yu. Therefore, it's worthwhile discussing the content and patterns of their sadness due to unique features their sadness presented during this time. This paper aims to discuss how scholars of Wei-Chin Dynasties expressed their sadness, with in-depth understanding of the cause and meaning of their absurd behavior.
