荀子哲學思想核心價值的建構

The Construction of the Core Values of Xun Zi's Philosophy

摘要


「核心價值」是銜接傳統與現代化的橋樑,更是現代化的特徵之一;另外一個現代化要素就是「理性思考」。荀子哲學思想深具這兩項邁向現代化的特質,其中關涉現代化理性思考的判知能力-「義」與核心價值的實踐能力-「禮」,是荀子哲學思想的主要範疇。「義」當與不當的獨立思考的判斷能力,與「禮」行為義所產生規範義的制度化,而此制度化所依循的禮法之法理卻又是遵循外在世界的規律-自然法。「自然法」一詞,同時兼指人們的行為準繩與外在世界的規律,我們稱之為「自然的人為法」。這正是荀子強調「從道不從君」(〈臣道〉)1所欲建構「通達之屬,莫不從服」(〈非十二子〉)的理性政治理想。然觀荀子「一天下,財萬物」(〈非十二子〉),實現統一,一統天下萬物而用之,使整個天下的百姓都能得到豐厚的養育與良好的教養的理想,必須建構在一個「以義變應」、「體禮之常而盡變」的「禮治」核心價值之中。這可說是當今人類如何邁向和諧、共生、共存,所必須自修、自制、自律的首要課題。

The ”core values” are not only the instruments to bridge the traditional and the modern but also the characteristics of modernization. The other essential element of modernization is ”rational thinking.” And Xun Zi's philosophy was profoundly characterized by these two properties of modernization, as the capacity to judge the rational thinking of modernization (Yi [righteousness]) and the capacity to practice the core value (Li [propriety]) were the major categories of Xun Zi's philosophy. Yi is the independent judgment of right and wrong, and li is the institutionalization of yi, while such institutionalization follows the rules of the outer world, natural law. Natural law, indicating also the cannons of human behaviors and the principles of the world, is what we call the ”natural civil law,” that is, the rational political ideal that Xun Zi tried to construct.
