The centre argument of this article is that the historical givenness of Tao constitutes human subjectivity, and the humane subject's dedication is only a response to that givenness. To make this point clear, in the first part of this article, we criticize Mouzongsan's interpretation of Menci, that Mou's interpretation limits the creativity of Tao. In the second part, we discuss how Tao give itself, and how thinking manifests that givenness. In the conclusion, we discuss the thesis of the self-sufficience of human nature.
