Subcutaneous mycosis may appear as nodular lesions on the hand and, although relatively uncommon, it appears to the hand surgeon sufficiently often to justify requiring its consideration in differential diagnoses of hand infections and tumors. Nodular subcutaneous mycosis of the hand is not lethal. However, not recognizing the possibility of fungal infection when dealing with hand disorders can lead to many unpleasant results. This article presents a patient afflicted with nodular lesions on the dorsum of the hand, from which dematiaceous agents were detected on mycotic culture. The nodular lesions were successfully treated by surgical excision.
