This paper aims to investigate on producing lightweight aggregates by incorporating municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration ashes with reservoir sludge. It was utilizing the mechanism of high temperature solid solution method to conduct an investigation on the development of lightweight aggregate using MSW incineration fly ashes and reaction ashes. The investigation shows that the MSW incineration fly ashes and reaction ashes are not in the limits of the expandable region of the ternary diagram. Therefore, they can only be used as additives. The lightweight aggregates generated by this study meet the toxic requirements of Taiwan Environmental Regulatory, which demonstrate that the aggregates thus fabricated are non-hazardous for construction use.
