Excess Metabolic Syndrome and Hyperuricemia in Taiwanese Aborigines: Environmental or Genetic?

並列摘要

Severe racial health disparities are one of the major challenges faced by contemporary health care system. To examine the ethnic influence in Taiwan aborigines, this study used data from the ”Nutrition and Health Survey in Taiwan 1993-1996,” and found genetic effects, although not measured directly, as a potentially independent risk factor for their excess metabolic syndrome and hyperuricemia prevalence in this under-privileged population, while controlling for salient environmental variables. For metabolic syndrome-related disorders, the genetic susceptibility is highly implicated.
