摘要

列強的東來，為清末原本自閉而安寧的傳統世界掀起了興然巨波，也使中國、乃至臺灣成為資本主義世界的邊陲。為了因應變局，清政府於焉展開了自強運動，從而牽動了「現代性」在臺的發軔。其不僅翻轉了臺灣整體的空間秩序、重構了臺南府城的空間意義以及府中府外的空間性，也使「城」失去了所以為城的意義，因而預見了日據後城牆的拆毀以及現代都市計畫的開展。這是一樁看不見的計畫，雖沒有藍圖，卻有計畫之實！

The expansion of forceful Westren nations in late 19 century had broken the static and self-closed order of traditional Qing Chinese world. After this impact, China and even Taiwan had become the periphery of the system of capitalist world. In order to overcome the crises, Qing govenment projected a series of self-supporting movements, so gave rise the emerging of modernity at Taiwan. It not only reversed the spatial order of Taiwan as a totality, reconstructed the urban meaning of Taiwan city and the spatiality of both inner and outer fields of the city, but also deprived of the sacred 'sprit' that make city 'wall' as a city wall, so foresaw the demolition of Taiwan city wall and the introduction of modern urban plans basing on scientific positivism after Japanese occupied period. This was an invisible plan--not any blueprints exist, but the reality of a project had been executed silently.
