The term carcinosarcoma was first used by Virchow in 1864 to designate neoplasms in which carcinomatous and sarcomatous elements were intermingled. Carcinosarcomas occur in various locations throughout the body, including lung, urinary bladderm prostate gland, esophagus, and female genital tract. Lesions of this type develop most often in the uterus but also in the esophagus, the skin and less frequently in the lung. Although these neoplasms are rare, the prognostic significance of a correct diagnosis is great, but the prognosis is very poor. Herein we report a case of anterior mediastinal carcinosarcoma.
