今日我們只要走進電子賣場,可以看到有各式各樣的個人電腦主機板,在這些主機板上的Super IO和BIOS chip都是以LPC(low pin count) bus interface來跟電腦系統連接,因此不論是高階或低階都可以看到LPC bus的蹤影,甚至連最新與Microsoft下一代作業系統Vista搭配來打造高度安全性個人電腦系統的TPM(Trust platform module)晶片都是採用LPC bus interface,不禁為其普及化的程度感到嘆為觀止。正因為如此,本文先針對LPC的電氣與物理特性以及其資料傳送模式作介紹,再進一步地討論LPC的軟體。
Today, we can see many PC main boards using the LPC bus to connect with Super IO and BIOS chips in special shops selling electronic products. In addition to Super IO and BIOS chips, the crypto chip ”TPM” proposed to cooperate with Microsoft next generation operating system ”Vista” for high-security PC environment is also embedded in PC main board by the LPC bus. In short, the LPC bus has become the most popular interface for the modern PC architecture. In this paper, we first describe the electrical and physical characteristics of LPC. Next, LPC data transaction mode is mentioned, and finally, LPC software is discussed.
