A High Speed Multi-phase Switching DC-DC Step-up Converter

摘要


本論文提出具有高速多相位切換式直流-直流升壓轉換器設計方法,採用高頻切換頻率以及多相位電源技術大幅減少電感感值以及電容容值,並利用封裝的鎊線做為電感以及高密度3D電容佈局技巧,將電源管理系統實現於單一封裝內,實現低成本、高性能以及高可靠的電源管理系統。此電源管理系統可將400mV至800mV輸入電壓升壓至1V輸出電壓,採用0.13μm CMOS製程技術設計輸出級晶片與控制晶片並使用封裝設計直徑1.5mil金線棒線電感,控制電路整合600MHz 24相位數位式無震盪器時脈產生器電路,透過動態相位切換方法,藉由不同的負載切換3相位至24相位,輸出功率80mW至4.6W皆可達到80%以上轉換效率,峰值轉換效率達到84.5%,最大輸出功率達到6.5W。

This paper presents a high speed multi-phase (HSMP) switching DC-DC step-up converter. The HSMP converter reduces the requirement for the inductance value and the capacitance value by high switching frequency technique and multi-phase time-interval switching power technique, and implements a low-cost, high-performance, and high-reliable power management system in a package (PMSiP). This output stage and this controller of power management that can boost 400mV-to-800mV input voltage to 1V output voltage are designed by a 0.13μm CMOS process, and power inductors are composed of Φ1.5mil gold bonding wires. This controller integrates a 600MHz 24-phase digital crystal-less clock-generator (CLCG) and an adaptive multi-phase control that can dynamically switch phase from 3-phase to 24-phase by different load. The conversion efficiency of 80mW-to-4.6W output power is more than 80%, the peak conversion efficiency is up to 84.5%, and the maximum output power is up to 6.5W.
