巨大乳頭狀結膜炎及眼睛傷口縫線
Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis and Ophthalmic Suture End Barbs
摘要
從1987年8月至1988年8月，我們共收集了五隻眼睛術後因暴露在組織外的縫線頭而引起巨大乳頭狀結膜炎。男：女比率3:2；年齡從27到58歲，平均51歲；追蹤時間2到6個月，平均3.2個月。所有的案例大都有癢，異物感，流淚，及黏性分泌物等症狀。這些症狀，在縫線頭去除後，馬上改善。巨大乳頭狀突起也在一個月左右逐漸消失。只要在手術完畢前多留意一下縫線頭的位置，巨大乳頭狀結膜炎是可以避免的；術後則應確實檢查傷口有否鬆掉或脫落的縫線。術後巨大乳頭狀結膜炎有時須與過敏性結膜炎作鑑別診斷。

Five eyes developed giant papillary conjunctivitis post-operatively. Male: female ratio 3:2. Age ranged from 27 to 58 years old, average 51. Time of follow up from 2 to 6 months, averaged 3.2 months. All patients complained of persistant red eye, foreign body sensation, moderate to severe itching, and variable amount of mucoid discharge. On examination giant papillary conjuctivitis was noted to be caused by exposed suture-end barbs and loose stitches. All symptoms were immediately relieved upon removal of the sutures. Giant papillae resolved slowly over a month's period. Giant papillary conjuctivitis is a preventable complication of ophthalmic surgery. Care should be taken prior to the end of the surgery and during post-operative follow-ups.
