Intuitionally, we might agree that acting imprudently is irrational. That is to say, reason does not permit us to sacrifice the future for the sake of the present. Anyway, can this intuition be justified? On the other hand, is it always rational to sacrifice the present for the sake of the future? In case of conflict between the present and future desires, which one are we to fulfil, if we are rational? I an going to provide solutions for the above questions by distinguishing between various categories of desires and by illustrating their different characteristics.
