摘要

以一項田野研究的經驗為背景，本文試圖討論當前台灣娼妓研究常見格式中的幾項問題。首先質疑母體與研究樣本之間的邏輯，以機構為樣本來源的研究，未經批判的依賴於警察查獲與司法裁定的結果，而這些執法權力並非「隨機」運作而包含了結構化了的（階級、性別、族群）歧視。而與司法收容體系互為條件的娼妓研究，侷限於社會問題與偏差行的提問方式，傾向於複製此一歧視結構。其次討論「娼妓」身份識別所依賴的權力技術，並指出在難以識別無法計算的情況下，「氾濫」的修辭只能是曖昧的統計虛構，是藉道德恐慌實現制裁權力論述部署。本文最後，以田野經驗與相關理論，分別檢視「性」與「交易」這兩個界定「賣淫」的文化範疇。

Considering a three year fieldwork on the women in sex works, this article raises several questions against the currently dominant format of prostitute studies in Taiwan. firstly, the logic of sampling is questioned, as to how uncrititcally they rely upon the police action and court decision, which are far from ”random” hut often structured discriminations. Prostitute studies confining itself to such frameworks that classify and explain the deviance of its ”sample” tends to reproduce that structure. This article then analyzes the power and technique of identification in terms of physical signs, manners, locations, and moral investigations. None of these methods works to its minimum efficacy. The moral statistics proclaiming a ”deluge” problem of prostitute is thus merely a statistic fiction, an ”operational crisis” to realize the power of sanction that is a deployment of certain moral interests. Finally, drawing on our field experience and related theories, the article calls for a re-examination of the two difficult cultural categories that define prostitution: ”sexuality” and ”commodity activities.”
