What capitalism is depends on the perspective taken; capitalism is historically constructed and varies as it takes different and sometimes contradictory trajectories. Thus, effort to give the ”best” definition of capitalism is doomed to be futile. There are at least two reasons. On the one hand, complex orientations to interest cannot be reduced to calculable profit, both theoretically and practically. On the other hand, by applying a Luhmannian semantic distinction aided by Weberian typology, we reach fuller appreciation for how capitalism emerges as contradictory fabrications from different conjunctures. Capitalism is not a homogeneous structure in essence.
