A total of twenty five fungi were isolated from diseased periwinkle (Catharanthus roseus) tissues in Taiwan. Among them, Botrytis cinerea、Colletotrichum gloeosporioides.、Fusarium oxysporum、F. solani、Phytophthora parasitica、Pythium aphanidermatum、Rhizoctonia solani、Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and Sclerotium rolfsii were identified to be pathogenic to periwinkle seedlings. Meanwhile, P. parasitica was the most important one to cause serious damages to periwinkles. Blotter method was used to investigate the seeds of 10 periwinkle cultivars and 17 fungi were detected and identified. The frequency of Cladosporium sphaerospermum、Rhizopus stolonifer、Alternaria alternata、Aspergillus sp. and Penicillium sp. existing on seeds were higher than other fungi observed on periwinkle seeds.
