The Interaction between Rhabditis sp. and Meloidogyne Incognita, Pratylenchus Coffeae on Banana

The free-living nematodes Rhabditis sp. were isolated from the field and to study its interaction with two plant parasitic nematodes (PPN). In the chemotaxis experiments, results showed that Rhabditis sp. were attracted by Meloidogyne incognita females and their egg masses, as well as the root lesions caused by Pratylenchus coffeae. Regardless of the inoculation orders, the numbers of PPN in the treatments that also had Rhabditis sp. usually were lower than the treatments that had PPN only. This phenomenon was more prominent when Rhabditis sp. were added before PPN inoculation. Our results also indicated that the behavior of bacteria-feeding Rhabditis sp. might change the microfauna around the rhizosphere or the PPN feeding sites, in consequence affecting the population and parasitizing activity of the root-knot and root-lesion nematodes.
