The purposes of this study were to evaluate the effectiveness of a home nursing program in the improvement of pressure sores. There were 24 patients who participated in this program for at least six months between June 1, 1989 and May 31, 1992. All home visit records were reviewed retrospectively. Each pressure sore was coded and analyzed using SPSS/PC+. There were a total of fifty-two pressure sores. Descriptive statistics, t-test and sign test were used to analyze the data. Results showed that both the pressure sores and mean volume of the pressure sore were reduced with home nursing service provided. The most common region of pressure sores was the sacrum. The involvement of patients and their families was identified as the key factor in helping pressure sores to heal. Those nursing experiences should be implemented in the hospital and at home.
