The purpose of the study was to investigate the importance and congruency of perceived learning needs of cardiac patients by patients and nurses. A descriptive design was utilized as the method in the study. Fifty-eight patients with cardiac disease and seventy-nine nurses from a teaching hospital in Taipei Taiwan voluntarily participated as subjects in the study. A Likert-type structured questionnaire was used as the instrument to collect data. The procedure of data collection was to ask patients and nurses to express their opinions of the importance of learning needs for cardiac patients by responding to the questionnaire. The findings of the study showed that: (1) the mean of the importance of leaning needs perceived by cardiac patients was 4.34, and perceived by nurses was 4.31. (2) There were no significant differences between patients’ and nurses’ perceptions of the importance of learning needs for cardiac patients. The results of the study should be very helpful for improving education for cardiac patients in a clinical setting.
