The purpose of this exploratory and descriptive study was to seek empirical evidence of outcomes of care which are sensitive to nursing interventions. A purposive sample of 224 patients and 8 executives at eight skilled nursing homes in Taiwan were recruited to collect data through the Biopsychosocial Functioning Scale (BFS) and a patient satisfaction questionnaire. Individual factors as well as satisfaction with care significantly predicted patients’ biopsychosocial functioning. The documentation of changes in health conditions among the study sample provided general recognition for nursing practice in Taiwan. Information about patients’ biopsychosocial functioning, satisfaction with care, and those factors which contribute to patients outcomes are crucial aspects in the stages of establishing the criteria for setting up nursing institutions in Taiwan.
