應用圖資背景研究生輪值大學圖書館參考諮詢服務台之研究

Recruiting Library and Information Science Graduate Students as Reference Assistants

摘要


在美國很多大學圖書館聘用圖資背景的研究生協助提供參考服務,而圖書資訊學校也會鼓勵學生到參考部門工作,以增進他們的實務經驗。許多大學圖書館非常樂意接受這種人力資源,而圖資所的研究生也常會在自己學校圖書館的參考部門找工作,希望可以從此處開始其資訊服務專業生涯。本文採用文獻分析和質性訪談等研究方法,探討應用圖資背景研究生輪值大學圖書館參考諮詢服務台之可行性,研究者最後提出五項發現,並認為此種作法對自己服務的圖書館是「雙贏」且「可行」的策略。

In the United States, many academic libraries recruit graduate students majoring in library and information science to assist in their reference service. Not only do the academic libraries welcome these graduate students with a professional background to librarianship, but departments and programs of library and information science also encourage their graduate students to work as reference assistants in libraries. These graduate students hence have an opportunity to cumulate their practical experiences in library reference service, which would be very helpful in their future application for related jobs in academic libraries. This article adopts literature analysis and qualitative interview to explore the feasibility of recruiting library and information science graduate students as reference assistants in libraries. In conclusion, this research sums up the findings in five aspects and proposes that this strategy is practicable and reciprocal to both academic libraries and the graduate students.
