Star fruit is a popular fruit in the Orient but its ingestion is associated with a variety of symptoms and outcomes, including death, in uremic patients. Four such uremic patients, presenting with different neurological dysfunctions after consuming star fruit, have been admitted to our hospital. The diagnosis of this potentially lethal condition is often missed by the emergency department physician, resulting in inappropriate treatment. The aim of this paper is to discuss the potential diagnostic pitfalls of star fruit intoxication in uremic patients and the efficacy of different therapeutic approaches.
