On the basis of records resulted from Sun-moon-light man’s league games, this research paper applies canonical correlation analysis to investigation of influences that 3-point shot, 2-point shot, free throw, numbers of offensive/defensive rebound, assistance, steal, blocked shot, turn-over and foul have on the scores counted/uncounted of a game. Research findings indicate that the first and second canonical Correlation coefficients between the above ten offense/defense techniques and scores counted/uncounted are 1.00 and 0.65, which have reached a siginificant level (p ＜0.05). The order of importance to the canonical variate η1 appears to be 2-point shot, numbers of assistance and 3-point shot, which bring positive correlation to scoring and negative correlation to score uncounted. The order of importance to the canonical η2 variate appears to be numbers of defensive rebound, steal and blocked shot, which bring negative correlation to score uncounted. In addition, numbers of fault have more influence to scores counted/uncounted than numbers of foul. Coaches should pay special attention to this. Calculating by means of redundancy index, we found that canonical variates χ1 and χ2 are able to explain up to 75% (57%+18%) of variables of scores counted/uncounted. As to the conclusion of this research, analysis of canonical variates based on ten offense/defense techniques has accurate and significant correlation and interpretations to scores counted/uncounted. The research results are worth of reference for coaches in making training plans and strategies for actual game plays.
